Baptism

In Baptism we celebrate God’s love; a love revealed to us in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth. God’s love surrounds all children from their beginnings and does not depend on whether or not they are baptized.

Baptism can occur at any age, and is the sacrament of initiation into the Christian community of faith.

In the United Church of Canada we celebrate Baptism several times a year, during regular Sunday worship services, because it involves the whole church community.

Parents reaffirm their own baptismal vows and then promise to teach their children to walk in the way of light and love revealed to us in the life and work of Jesus Christ. The church community welcomes the children who are baptized and vows to help in their spiritual guidance, so that they may come to a deeper understanding of God, of the Love of God and the joy that comes from living out their faith in this world.
